Race Standings
Updated through Checkpoint 2. The race began in July 2025 and is currently in its second year. Standings are determined by checkpoints reached, with cumulative barrels produced as the tiebreaker.
Current Standings
Race scoring: 1 point per checkpoint reached + 1 point per 100 million barrels drilled. In the event of a tie, the Race Stewards will deliberate.
⚠ Race production for Harmony, Heritage, and Hondo is credited from March 14, 2026 (federal Defense Production Act restart order). Platforms were offline since 2015.

* Top speed figures are self-reported by competing platforms and have not been independently verified. Race officials have described verification as "structurally impractical." † Race production is a live estimate based on each platform's average daily output since race start (July 4, 2025).
Race Governance
The following questions have been formally submitted to the Oil Rig Regatta Race Stewards and decided by majority vote. Determinations are binding and final. They are published in the interest of transparency.
Locomotion must be intentional, directed, and conducted by the platform's registered support fleet. Tidal forces acting on a moored platform do not constitute forward progress. A platform may not claim race distance for movement it did not plan, pay for, or instruct. The Race Stewards note that this determination eliminates the only avenue by which any platform has moved since the race began.
Checkpoints are credited to platforms, not to support vessels. A support vessel reaching a wellbore does not constitute a platform arrival. The Race Stewards acknowledge that this ruling closes a loophole that, at the time of drafting, no team had yet attempted to exploit.
Disqualification implies a rules violation. Platform Holly violated no rules. She was decommissioned pursuant to federal regulatory requirements, a circumstance beyond the platform's control. The Race Stewards have entered Holly into the official record as a retired competitor with full honors, noting that her career barrels of 1.1 billion represent the largest single-platform production total among all registered competitors.
Platforms may visit any named wellbore in the Santa Barbara Channel, subject to existing regulatory permits, operator agreements, and Race Stewards approval. The four race checkpoints — Newport Beach, Santa Barbara, Morro Bay, and Monterey — must be reached in order. A platform may visit any number of intermediate wellbores between checkpoints by any route it chooses.
The Race Stewards have declined to impose a minimum production threshold for qualifying wellbores. Any named wellbore with an established wellhead and a valid API well number is eligible. The determination was reached after two hours of deliberation.
